[Reflection]

Experience

Typography has been an insightful module that offered me a glimpse into the design world. It made me realize that typography is one of the foundations of good design and has been a vital element in communication for centuries. The tasks in this module taught me new skills, such as creating expressive typography that accurately conveys the meaning of a word, curating balanced editorial layouts using grids and guides, and designing fonts from scratch. Each stage of the process required careful attention to detail, which could be frustrating at times, especially when adjustments seemed endless. Despite these challenges, the meticulousness of the work gave me a deeper appreciation for typography and its role in creating impactful designs.

Observation

I noticed that every curve, line, and shape in typography must be thoughtfully laid to maintain visual harmony, which requires both precision and intention. Measurements also play an important role, as even slight misalignments can disrupt the overall balance of a design. Working with typography also highlighted how small details, like the thickness of a stroke or the spacing between letters, can significantly affect the mood and readability of the text. I also observed how typography has the power to bring structure, hierarchy, and personality to a design, turning simple text into something visually interesting. This attention to detail can be challenging at times, but it made me recognize how typography brings structure and character to design.

Findings

Typography has taught me that details truly matter, even down to the smallest point. Incorporating well-designed typography can elevate a design and make it more impactful. This module also made me realize that my journey in typography is just beginning, and there is plenty of room for growth and improvement. For example, I struggled a bit with the expressive typography exercise, particularly with balancing elements that convey the word’s meaning without overpowering the overall design. Moving forward, I plan to expand my visual library and focus on sketching more ideas during the brainstorming phase. Tasks like this involve a lot of trial and error, so having more options to explore will help me refine and build stronger concepts for my future works.

Thank You
